The Proof of Work by an Interblockchain Artist
Exhibition: May 19th – 24th, 2026 | Pizza Day
From digital proof of work to the resilience of matter.
I. A Heritage Rooted in Time
Born in 1969—the historical year humanity crossed the Earth’s threshold to become « extraterrestrial »—Jean103 defines himself as a link in a human chain whose value is measured in time. For him, every human being holds a potential of approximately 3 billion seconds (90 years): a precious resource he chooses to dedicate to creation and meaningful encounters.
His pseudonym is a cryptographic manifesto: it merges ART (the 103rd word of the BIP39 dictionary) and JEAN (a homonym of Argent—Money—in French Verlan back-slang). Raised in a culture of non-violence, he cultivates an active distrust of overconsumption, preferring the durability of the physical object over the fleeting nature of the message.

II. Convergence: From Code to Matter
Inspired by the socio-political alphabet of Jacques Villeglé, Jean103 reinvents urban codes by integrating Web3 symbols. His encounter with Richard Stallman (RMS) catalyzed his reflection: in a world where information costs zero to produce, only « Proof of Work » (PoW) allows for the attribution of a unique and unforgeable value to a work.
He explores this frontier through two primary axes:

- Wikimoney: A reflection on shared knowledge as a medium of exchange.
- The Cryptoleft License: A theory aimed at securing privacy and tokenizing Real World Assets (RWA) via anonymity protocols.
III. Two Spheres, One Gesture
Influenced by the approach of Rubiscubist (Invader) and the « flacking » technique of Ememem, Jean103 deploys his work across two dimensions:
The Public Sphere (The Gift): Over a hundred glass and UV-resistant mosaics adorn urban walls to « heal the city. »

- Key Locations: Banks of the Seine (Suresnes, facing the lock), Canal Saint-Denis (Aubervilliers).
The Private Sphere (The Vault): Intimate works integrating precious metal coins (gold, silver, copper). These 12 or 24-piece mosaics are not merely aesthetic: they serve as robust physical supports to store passphrases (BIP38) or private keys (BIP39), protecting digital assets against obsolescence and hacking.
The artistic gesture thus becomes a proof of security: engraving, punching, and assembling to make the invisible (the code) finally tangible and eternal.
Jean103 claims anonymity, yet publishes his biography: where lies the boundary between public work and private protection?

Public Mosaic Exhibitions: Suresnes Mont Valérien Station, Suresnes Bridge, Suresnes Lock-dam, Canal Saint Denis at Aimé Césaire Station (Line 12).
The Exhibition Toolbox
To accompany your visit and decode the universe of Jean103:
- BIP38 / BIP39: International standards used to generate a recovery phrase (seed phrase) for a Bitcoin wallet.
- Hobo Nickel: An artisan tradition of carving small bas-reliefs onto coins (low-value or bullion). Jean103 adapts this to cybersecurity.
- Proof of Work (PoW): A computing concept validating a transaction through effort. Here, the effort is manual and artistic.
- Steganography (HIPS): The art of hiding a message within another message or object (Hidden In Plain Sight).
