BTC Bitcoin

Contemporary Mosaic, Pixel & Crypto Art

INTRODUCTION

A unique contemporary mosaic where Pixel Art meets crypto culture. “BTC Bitcoin” revisits an iconic milestone in Bitcoin history through a raw, urban aesthetic.

103Jean — At the Crossroads of Matter and Digital Culture

Under the cypher pseudonym 103Jean, Jean ART explores the intersection of contemporary mosaic, street art and digital sovereignty. Drawing from pixelated visual languages and urban artistic codes—inspired by the likes of Villeglé, Invader, and Ememem—he embeds cryptographic information into physical matter.

The « Hobo Crypto » Tradition

Rooted in the artisan tradition of the Hobo Nickel, the artist hand-punches coins on an anvil to transform currency into security. This manual process creates a physical support for recovery phrases (BIP38/BIP39), protecting digital assets against obsolescence through the resilience of metal.

Artwork from a Conceptual Series of Collectible Pieces

Artist’s Statement:

“BTC Bitcoin” explores the duality between Bitcoin (the decentralized network) and bitcoin (the unit of account BTC). The work acts as a Proof of Work (PoW), where manual artistic effort validates the piece, bridging ephemeral digital culture with the permanence of a unique physical object.

Numismatic Composition & Cryptographic Standards

The upper mosaic grid of this piece serves as a physical manifest of digital security, utilizing a minimalist typography to render the « BTC » ticker. This composition integrates authentic currency to bridge historical value with the modern era:

  • 1 Centime “Épi” (Stainless Steel): The letters « BTC » are constructed from 25 stainless steel coins. This specific count is a deliberate tribute to the ultimate security standard: the 24-word seed phrase plus the 25th word passphrase (password).
  • 5 Centimes “Marianne” (Copper 920/1000): These coins provide the contrasting background, highlighting the industrial resilience of the steel.

In ‘BTC Bitcoin’, the ‘BTC’ pixels materialize the master seed through stainless steel, forging the 256-bit entropy and the impenetrable shield of a 24+1 security protocol into a tangible reality. Through this contrast of copper and steel, the artist 103jean bridges the gap between the tactile history of physical money and the mathematical rigidity of the Bitcoin protocol.
